What are Cookies?

What Cookies do we use?

We use a temporary cookie to hold the contents of the shopping basket. This cookie is removed when the browser is shut down.

Thyroid UK takes your privacy seriously and is committed to safeguarding your privacy. This Policy does not cover external websites that we link to from www.thyroiduk.org

What is personal information?

Personal information includes any information, recorded or not, that can be used to distinguish, identify or contact a specific individual. This includes information in either paper, or electronic form, such as:

  • age, name, address, email address, phone number, ID numbers, income or ethic origin
  • opinions, evaluations, comments, social status, or disciplinary actions
  • employees files, credit records, loan records, medical records

Who is accountable?

Every trustee, employee and volunteer of Thyroid UK is responsible for maintaining and protecting personal information under his/her control. The Chief Executive is considered the accountable individual responsible for maintaining these principles. Staff and volunteers will be asked to sign an agreement concerning confidentiality at the time of their engagement.

Limiting collection of information

The collection of personal information shall be limited to that which is necessary for the purposes identified by the organisation. Information shall be collected by fair and lawful means.

What information do we collect?

Thyroid UK collects the following information:

  • Information volunteered by you on order forms, contact forms, surveys etc.
  • When you contact us we ask for information such as your name, address, telephone number and email address, which is stored on a database.
  • Which pages on our website are accessed and when, but we do not use cookies to track who is accessing them.

How do we use this information?

Thyroid UK uses this information for the following purposes:

  • to fulfil your requests for information, products and services
  • for administration purposes
  • to send you communications that may be of interest to you
  • to send you communications about Thyroid UK that may help us in our campaign to change the way thyroid disease is diagnosed and treated.

Will we disclose your information to outside parties?

Personal information shall not be used or disclosed for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the individual or as required by law. Personal information shall be retained only as long as necessary for the fulfilment of the purpose for which it was collected.

We promise that Thyroid UK does not rent, sell or share personal information about you with other people, except to provide products or services that you have requested such as orders for books, CDs and DVDs etc.

We limit access to personal information about you to employees who we believe reasonably need to come into contact with that information to provide products or services to you in order to do their jobs.

Can I check that my information is correct?

Personal information shall be as accurate, complete and up-to-date as is necessary for the purposes for which it was intended.

Upon request, an individual shall be informed of the existence, use, and disclosure of his/her information, and shall be given access to that information. An individual shall be able to challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information, and have it amended or removed as appropriate.

Openness and transparency

Thyroid UK will make readily available to individuals, specific information about the policies and practices concerning the management of personal information.

What do I do if I have a complaint?

An individual shall be able to make a complaint concerning compliance with this policy to the Chief Executive, being the designated individual accountable for Thyroid UK's compliance.

What security precautions are in place to protect the loss, misuse or alteration of my information?

Unfortunately, communications such as emails, email links and email forms cannot be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Although we do our best to protect your personal information, Thyroid UK cannot guarantee security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems by having passwords on all our computers and databases.
Once paper information has been processed, it is scanned into our computer and the paper information is then shredded.

Thyroid UK gives you a choice on all of our relevant forms as to whether or not you are interested in receiving further communications from us.
