Diagnos-Techs clinical & research laboratories were the first laboratory to introduce saliva testing into clinical practice. The laboratory was first established in 1987 and awarded accreditation for standards in accuracy, performance & proficiency by The Commission of Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA). All parameters on their reports are standardised daily and sent to the World Health Organisation (WHO). This ensures the consistency of results and permits precise clinical diagnosis. Quality control is their primary goal.
Please note: Unfortunately Diagnos-Techs are unable to offer Thyroid saliva testing for the foreseeable future.
THE RED APPLE CLINIC
The Red Apple Clinic is a U.K. based nutritional therapy clinic commissioned by Diagnos-Techs to provide a full support service, advice and feedback regarding results and treatments from a specialist team of laboratory doctors and nutritionists.
EASY TO USE SELF TEST KITS
Our laboratory tests are all easy-to-use self test kits sent direct to your home, which you then return to the laboratory for analysis. A saliva test merely requires you to place saliva from your mouth into a glass vial. Each test kit includes instructions explaining how to conduct the test, but you may also telephone if you have any further queries.
TEST RESULTS SENT DIRECT TO YOU
Along with your test results you will receive a brief statement highlighting any conditions which may require treatment. In this instance it is recommended that you seek professional advice from your GP, Endocrinologist or Private GP (list available with Thyroid UK Information Pack).
FOR FURTHER ADVICE
The Red Apple Clinic also provide a telephone consultation service with their nutritionist. Calls are charged at £1 per min, i.e. 30 minute consultation £30. Most people find that between 30 to 45 minutes is sufficient.
TEST PRICES INCLUDE:
The test kit, results & a brief statement highlighting any conditions which may require treatment.
BASIC ADRENAL TEST
Poor thyroid function is often associated with poor adrenal function so practitioners often recommend that you undertake an Adrenal test. Our Adrenal Stress Index test requires four separate saliva samples taken first thing in the morning, at noon, early in the evening and last thing at night.
Sample required: 4 x Saliva. £93.50
Includes:
● Cortisol rhythm and associated adrenal status throughout the 24 hour period.
● A DHEA pooled value which helps to assess adrenal adaptation or deterioration.
ADRENAL & INSULIN RESISTANCE TEST
The majority of adrenal tests only check cortisol and DHEA parameters, but Diagnos-Techs laboratories also provide a more comprehensive test. The aim of this test is not only to check adrenal function but also other associated factors.
Sample required: 4 x Saliva. £103.13
Includes:
● Cortisol rhythm and associated adrenal status throughout the 24 hour period.
● A DHEA pooled value which helps to assess adrenal adaptation or deterioration.
● A Secretary IgA level which provides an insight into the impact of adrenal stress on the mucusal immune system.
● 17-hydroxy progesterone, (17-OH). This is the major precursor of cortisol and can be a cause of low cortisol levels.
● Poor adrenal function is often associated with glycaemic dysregulation (poor regulation of blood sugar levels). This test includes an insulin test which helps to assess whether insulin is adversely affecting cortisol levels.
● This test also includes a check for gluten intolerance. When someone reacts positively to gluten, they initiate a reaction which causes inflammation within the gut wall, (the only initial symptom may be stomach bloating). Products of inflammation then leak into the general circulation and stimulate the release of Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) from the pituitary gland. ACTH stimulates the adrenal gland cortex to produce cortisol. Continuing to eat gluten places the adrenal glands under considerable stress and will also ultimately affect thyroid function.
CARBOHYDRATE CHALLENGE TEST
Normally recommended if the Insulin Marker results, (used in the above tests), assess glycaemic dysregulation to be a likely contributory factor in adrenal / thyroid dysfunction. Blood sugar imbalances can be a major contributory function in poor thyroid function as well as diabetes.
Sample required: 1 x Saliva. £96.08
Includes:
●Two insulin tests (one before eating & the other after food).
● A cortisol check.
● A blood sugar test
FOOD INTOLERANCE PANEL
Food Intolerances often contribute to poor thyroid function.
An intolerance is when the gut lining immunity reacts to a certain food type and the gut lining becomes irritated and inflamed.
An allergy occurs once the gut lining becomes damaged and particles of food which should not be able to reach the bloodstream start to breach the gut lining. Once in the bloodstream they are treated as a foreign body and the immune system develops an antibody to attack them. The distress this causes to the body stimulates the release of Adrenocorticotropic hormone ACTH which stimulates the adrenal glands to produce more cortisol. This causes strain on the adrenal and thyroid glands and also triggers a vicious circle because high cortisol levels also irritate the gut lining.
Sample required: 4 x Saliva. £60.23
Includes:
● Tests for the four main food intolerance groups ● Gluten ● Cows milk ● Egg ● Soy.
EXPANDED GASTROINTESTINAL PANEL
Sample required: 2 x Saliva & 3 x Stool £187.73
Includes:
● Tests for the four main food intolerance groups - ● Gluten ● Cows milk ● Egg ● Soy.
● A full parasite and ova check. Includes; toxoplasma and giardia antigens, but any form of ova or parasite found would be investigated and reported.
● Candida and yeast cultures, but any form of yeast culture would be investigated and reported.
● Harmful bacteria; such as helicobacter pylori and clostridium difficile, but any form of bacterial pathogens would be investigated and reported.
● Intestinal immunity.
● Faecal pH level and any indication of intestinal bleeding (occult blood).
● Worm eggs or antigens such as tapeworm, roundworm, tissue worm, but any form of worm or worm egg would be investigated and reported.
● Organisms such as ameba histolytica, but any form of foreign organism would be investigated and reported.
● Digestive enzyme activity such as lysozyme chymotrypsin and alpha anti chymotrypsin.
